Let My Goldfish Go

Let My Goldfish Go explores a contradiction hidden within acts of care. Inspired by the practice of releasing captive animals into the wild, the project imagines a fictional device that allows a pet goldfish to live in a river while remaining permanently connected to its owner. Cameras, remote feeding, environmental sensing, and positioning systems continue to support the fish after its release.

The device appears to offer freedom, yet every function extends human presence into the animal's new habitat. Care gradually becomes surveillance, protection becomes intervention, and liberation becomes another form of dependency.

Rather than proposing a solution, the project examines how systems built with good intentions can continue to shape the lives they claim to protect. By exaggerating this logic through speculative design, the work invites viewers to question whether technology can truly relinquish control, or whether it simply invents more sophisticated ways of maintaining it.
